Groundbreaking held for $30M Ronald McDonald House in Stony Brook
Since opening in 1989, Ronald McDonald House® Orange County has provided comfort, care and support by keeping families together when their child needs medical care in Southern California hospitals. The Ronald McDonald House will be built on the Stony Brook Medicine campus, designed to provide a safe, secure and comfortable environment for families of children who are receiving medical care at the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. RMHCSC continues to work to help to keep families, communities, and patients close. Seeing the number of families impacted by the Family Room program, the Orange County House opened a second Ronald McDonald Family Room at CHOC Children's in Orange extending its services and family-centered care services. A group of caring individuals teamed up to give children with cancer and their siblings an opportunity to “take a break” from their illness to just be “ordinary kids” enjoying the therapeutic benefits of the outdoors. Today, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times® is situated in the picturesque San Jacinto Mountains near Idyllwild and offers year-round programs for children with cancer and families at no-cost.

This eight-room Craftsman-style home serves families whose children are receiving treatment at Huntington Hospital and other nearby hospitals and medical centers. Staying close by allows parents to better communicate with their child's medical team and improves adherence to complicated treatment plans. These are only some of the reasons that make Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California an important organization.

Our Family Rooms provide an oasis for parents and caregivers inside the hospital, giving them a chance to sleep, shower, and connect with other families just steps away from their child's hospital bed. A community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, courage and joy. Family Support Services (FSS) provides compassionate emotional support, education, and resources to the families and staff of the Ronald McDonald House.
Yet, simply because we don’t have enough sleeping rooms around the world, 138,000+ families are turned away each year. Your donation can help us to expand to fulfill the needs of more sick children and their families. Whether it’s a birthday, successful surgery, completion of treatment or a good grade on a test, guests can pick out a gift from Karen’s Closet, our stockroom filled with toys, games, art supplies and more. Through our partnership with Party Pepper Uppers, guests can start their party from a Birthday or Way to Go bags. Thanks to LightZ of Hope, we light up a colorful disco ball at the Front Desk to announce good news. Our “Help Yourself” program allows guests to take what they need of available items.
